I'm addicted to DDR. I need a 12-step program.

I recently stumbled across Etsy seller Oddstitch's work. I really love a couple of the pieces:

I'd love to try my hand at this, but I'm not sure where to start. Any idea what is being embroidered on here? Felt? Fleece? I'm at a loss.

But we have flamethrowers. And what this indicates to me, it means that at some point, some person said to himself, "Gee, I sure would like to set those people on fire over there. But I'm way too far away to get the job done. If only I had something that would throw flame on them."

did you see this part of her listings? "Materials  string, button, leather, sterling silver" since the stitching is string, the sparkles are probably the button, the chain is sterling, my guess would be they are stitched on leather

it just looks like regular cross stitching (forgetting the name right now) cloth.  Most of the pieces say they are "backed" with leather.

To do it cheaply, I'm sure you could use the harder, thicker acrylic felt.

haha i didn't find that pic, it is aida... and with the amount of stitching that's done, you wont need anything stiffer... trust me, it'll hold itself up lol and aida is cheap, though probably not as cheap as felt or fleece they have it for $1.39 on joann.com for a 12x18" piece

Aida 14 count.  I agree it is really cheap.  You can buy it for a couple of dollars at JoAnn's, Hobby Lobby or Michael's.  It's a good stiff material to work with.
