I've never seen a case mod on craftster so here ya go! My boyfriend and I (I did most of the painting) modded up his computer for a MaximumPC (magazine) patriotic themed case modding contest.

We picked a "Rosie the Riveter" theme and turned the case into a big metal toolbox by painting it with blue automotive spray paint (took forever! I tried to do a professional job). Them we added real hinges, a handle and other hardware to fake a took box look. I then added a bunch of war "stickers" to one side and painted a version of the Rosie poster on other (me as Rosie, my boyfriend's idea).

We got an honorable mention, got a picture and mention in MaximumPC and a $200 video card that my BF got to pick out. Pretty neat.

Sorry about the tiny pics, I can scrounge around for some bigger ones if anyone's really interested.

Congrats!  I'm not much of a computer savvy person myself, but my brother would love this.  Did you add a handle to the top as well? By the way you make a great Rosie!

Yeah there's a handle. You can kinda see it in some of the pictures. It's from an old tool box we had. It's just for looks though you can't pick the case up by it. Thanks so much! (Self portraits can be so mean!)

Aah!  My boyfriend gets home from his computer tech job any second and I can't wait to show him this!  He did mods to his case over Christmas -- he'll freak over this.  The theme is awesome, nice take on "patriotic", and you did such a fantastic job on it!!  Congratulations!

Thanks! This was a while ago, the case has changed since. Now my boyfriend's pc is watercooled so he got a new side panel with a window on the side without Rosie so you can see all the goodies inside. What did your boyfriend do? People do some really crazy stuff. My boyfriend and I are always planning out his next case!

I like it! I really like the Rosie too! My brother has the same picture on the side of his computer haha. Mine is just a one where you can see everything inside and the fan has like a blue light by it, but thats basically it. Good job on your winnings thats sweet! I would be super happy. Just Imagine how many people entered that!

Watercooled.. my boy would freak out over that.  He is always threatening to hook up some elaborate watercooling system that involves giant pvc pipes through the apartment and fluid exchange with my fishtank!

His case isn't as elaborate as this one, or themed.. it's his first attempt.  Looks really professional though, I'm always so impressed with what they can do to those ugly cases.  He cut holes and put plexi behind them to make windows on each side, added some interior lights, and topped it off with fancy fans.  I'd be afraid to see what would happen if he had more money to devote to the project--although there are definitely worse things to be addicted to... and helping with the planning sounds like a lot of fun.  Smiley
