UPDATED: 3/2010: Felted watermelon bag

So, I kinda like watermelons.  A lot.  After making a hat and scarf set (http://www.craftster.org/forum/index.php?topic=277834.msg3143187#msg3143187), I decided I needed a purse to go with it.  But, also considering my love for felted bags, I decided to combine both my loves into one.  This is the result.



I actually started this last fall. However, when there is something wrong with one of my WIPs, I put it away until I can figure out what the heck it is. It could be because of a color combination that just isn't right or, for a purse, it could be that I haven't quite figured out how to finish it- wrong handles or lining or....something.  That's what happened with this little guy....I wanted to finish it soooo bad, but....I just couldn't figure out what to do about the flap!  Should I put a silver embellishment? Do I line it so the magnetic clasp doesn't show? WHAT DO I DO??  So, there it sat....for months.  Until I had the utterly brilliant idea (or at least something I could live with!) of using a big black button- a ginormous watermelon seed, if you will.  Ahhhh.  Once I figured it out, I could bring it out of hiding at long last.

I'll be making another one soon- a lady at church saw it and bought it- woo!  But, a few of my friends want it, too, so, off I go- hopefully I'll actually write up the pattern for it, too.....

I absolutely love your purse!!!! You make me want to break out my needles and starting knitting one right now. lol  It's just gorgeous. What size needles did you use and did you double your thread??  I haven't knitted/felted a purse in over a year.

Oh, and did you knit the beads into the bag or did you add them afterwards? 

A pattern would be great too. Is it knit or crochet? Duh! I see we are in the "crochet" section. I just clicked the link to the picture and didn't pay attention to what title it was under.

This is awesome! next time what if you made it more narrow as it went up so it looked even more like a slice of watermelon? I've never felted so idk if thats even possible, just a suggestion...but it looks great!
