Faeries & Goblins

Hey Guys!
The big project for this year is character costumes - Faeries & Goblins more specifically! I just thought I'd start a thread, as I did last year, and update it as I finish things off.

I should add that the inspiration for the goblin was drawn from the art of Brian Froud and Spiderwick Chronicles, while for the fairy, I have drawn inspiration very heavily from the art of Renae Taylor

Hello again! Our show was last week, so I finally have some proper shots! My fairy is modelled by the lovely Ellie and goblin is modelled by Mathilde. These photos were taken on campus at Sydney Institute Technology!

Update for 26.06.09

This is the negative & postivie moulds (or male and female) that we poured last night. I now have to clean out the negative of all the residual klay and pour the latex! The klean klay on the positive is now useless, so i'll peel all that off back to the original plaster that is underneath. It's a pretty cool camera trick that they both look like positive (or male) moulds!



Update for 25.06.09

Hello again, we now are working on our goblin masks (among other things) and here is a picture of the face I have sculpted. Tonight we will be making a negative mould out of this and then, we'll pour latex into the negative and come out with a wonderfully detailed mask! I hope to give him whiskers and hairy brows once he has been painted and cleaned up!

Goblin shoes are finally completed, next step is the harness for the wings and the bustle petticoat.

Hello again. I've now started & finished the bustle (strange I know, but this fairy is in a bustle!) and the shoes are covered.







By next time, the shoes should be completely done, and the petticoat started.

Faery Wings

Piano wire, shaped and soldered together. Covered with hand-dyed silk chiffon. Wings are held into a piece of leather by thermal plastic. These will be glued onto felt & another piece of leather and added to a harness.
Adornments are various leaves and flowers!

PE30 Foam glued together - to be covered in leather, with ballet flat inside

These are quite fun. I especially like the veining in the wings. I hope you don't mind, but I fully intend to pester the queen of the ren faire fairy guild I am in into making a pair for herself before faire this year!

Feel free! Share the fairy love! Tell her to start early though, these have taken me 20hrs+ just to get to this stage, and I still have a fair way to go!
