So, I have been a wee bit obsessed with fabric in general and charm packs specifically lately! Obsessing on etsy, drooling over awesome quilts by whoopdedoo_5
, doing the strip swap, organizing my fabric stash...all these things have helped feed the obsession! I was given a fun charm pack recently (moda Oh Cherry Oh, since you asked!
), and while cutting some squares from yardage of white on white fabric to go with it, I thought it would be fun to make our own charm packs to swap!
The idea~ Make charm packs in a set of color or theme and send them out to 5 people. I think putting people in groups of 6 would work nicely, experience swappers could have the option of doing more than 1 group. Charm packs could be 40 squares (more or less? that's pretty standard I think?) and people could list colors or themes they would have available. We could either include solids or not, but no more than 2 of each fabric per charm pack, preferably 1 of each fabric (maybe 2 of some that you think are super awesome if you need to round out the numbers?) I'm thinking this would maybe US only for quick turn-around and cheaper shipping?
So, for instance, in my sign-up I might list that I could do a browns and greens charm pack, or a charm pack with leafy patterns, or a certain tone/hue/shade, ie all deep jewel tones? Each person could list what their stash could yield as far as different themes/colors, and people would be sorted into groups according what would give a good variety. If you have a pretty random stash, you could see what you have that would go together nicely...maybe you have lots of polka dot prints, and you could put those all together and then add in prints and solids that match the colors. Maybe a theme could be "girly" with some conversation fabric of high heels, various pink, purples, and reds, and cherry and hearts fabrics! You might want to check your stash, and then pick up a half dozen FQ's to add with what you have for some extra good variety!
All fabric would need to be 100% cotton of course, and preferably good quality. I'm not really interested in getting any Wal Mart fabric for quilting, personally! And carefully cut to be 5 x 5 inches!
