Neither of these are as crazy as the Pink Yo-Yo Dress of Doom, but they both turned out so cute I thought I'd share them.

First up, Simplicity 2989.  It ended up being my niece's little rockabilly dress.  I love the retro vibe of the shape, so used retroriffic fabrics and ended up with this.

And another to show the cute little tulle ruffle on the slip.  Truthfully, though, the tulle was such a pain that next time I think I might try slipping a little horsehair braid in the hem of the skirt instead.

And Simplicity 4721.  In the pattern, the godets are the same fabric as the rest of the dress, but I think it's much more fun with them in contrast.  And the main fabric reminds me of the 1970s wallpaper in my childhood bedroom.

Thanks for looking!  I think both of these are winners and love having people to show them off to!

I love them both, but I adore the rockabilly cherry one.  LOVE the tulle!  How adorable.  Great job.  Your neice is lucky to have you sewing for her.

Thank you!  I actually knew the cherries were a real winner when she wouldn't stop twirling in it, and asked me if I could make another one just like it.   Grin

It's not what you know, but what you do with what you know that is important.

Oh my goodness she's such a ham for the camera! The important thing is that SHE loves them (plus they look super!)
