I think you could just draw/pint your pattern lightly onto that blue-lined graph paper they pawn off to high school students for geometry classes.  You'd have to print at like, a 30% opacity to be able to see the lines, but you could always print out another version with full color, or have a color number chart on the paper. 

I googled "graph" and yoinked the first one I found, then put it on top of an image (had to paste it several times, because it was much smaller than the image) and am using it as a pattern.  Probably not a good idea since I'd only been cross-stitching for an hour when I did that, but I guess we'll see how my makeshift pattern works out soon enough.  ^^;  So far, since the gridded image is larger than the swuares of the cloth, the image is coming out about 80% of the size of the print.
