Allo!  Grin Thankfully, prom is finally done! Between working full time, going to school, finals, etc... the quality is definitely lacking. But it's what I wanted and I had fun making it. Way more fun than last years (http://www.craftster.org/forum/index.php?topic=241392.msg2659590#msg2659590) though I think more people liked that one. Oh well! What can you do?

Off-hand I can't quite remember what the pattern is, but it's a Vogue, with a few alterations for size and fabric weight.

I apologize in advance for the sh*tty pictures!

The front (the five little girls next door were teaching me how to pose):

The back:

A few of the girls:

Just for fun:

Prom was shaping up to be a bit icky when my date bailed last minute, my boyfriend was too old to go, after prom plans fell to pieces and limo prices sky rocketed... Thankfully, my best friend Lesley jumped in to save the day as a perfect date and supplier of our mode of transportation: our very own short bus.

Any questions, comments, or criticisms are more than welcome!

Love love love!  Kiss

I think it looks great. To me, you look like some kind of 1920s/30s Hollywood movie star -- your hair and the style of the dress. Very cool.

So seriously? You rode a short bus to prom? That's hilarious.  Cheesy

Wow, that dress is gorgeous! I'm such a lover of the little black dress, and prom dresses are notorious for being POOFY and appalling and all that. I guess the best thing about this one is that you can keep it and wear it to just about any evening formal event you want!

Thank you all sooo much!

The prom dress was alright, the bus was SO much fun!

I had some problems with the fit of the dress. I can't decide whether I'm just so small that I don't fit well into a 4 or that I'm in between sizes... either way, does anyone else have this problem? Solutions?

This is spectacular!  I was looking on the Vogue patterns page and either I don't see your pattern or you made one of them WAY better!  Awesome job.

As far as fit, it seems like people have trouble in particular if they are short or long waisted, because pattern sizes don't generally account for that.  But then again you don't look either (in fact, you look gorgeous!).  So I dunno--maybe you are between sizes.  I'm always having to blend patterns to make up for my different sizes in different areas. But it looks like you didn't have too much trouble--great fit!

Haha I didn't make it better, it's just difficult to see the pattern because of the black lace!

It's V2964

Thanks again!

Also want to say the whole thing is fabulous. Yes, you have that classic Hollywood glam going on. And the bus is awesome. I've always felt people take prom too seriously, get all stressed out and end up not having as much fun as could be had because they are worried about the limo, their hair, their dress, whether or not their date is behaving...whatever.

As far as fit, when it's super important, you might consider doing a mock up with cheap fabric next time. Did that for my prom dress & it turned out to be a good thing. Had we not, it would have ended up way too small. (I've picked up several old sheets at thrift stores for like $0.99 for the purpose of mock ups. Doesn't get much cheaper than that.)

it's great that you still went to prom even though the boyfriend couldn't go.
a short bus is better than a limo any day!
you have a really awesome friend!

...and your dress is totally fab! Maybe for a better fit you could take the dress to a tailor because it's so hard to get things to fit right on your own body without a dress form to work off of.

(I thought it looked like it fit in the photos anyway)
