Ya know, I used to really HATE skulls on things.  I have been slowly coming to like these sugar skulls, and yours just may have won me over.  That is absolutely beautiful!  Are you going to make it into something, or just frame it?

I used to feel the same way about those skulls, but this one charmed me. I am going to frame it in something ornate and Spanish-styled...as soon as I can find it cheap!  Grin

The skull itself  took probably 8-12 hours of stitching.  The roses took twice that long, because of all the color combinations. I would start a color then rip it out if I didn't think it worked with the other colors in that particular flower.

Thank you all for the lovely compliments!

This is amazing work! How long did it take you? What are you going to do with it

I started right after Christmas.  I figure in terms of hours of actual stitching about 30 to 35.   The colors choices took a lot of time as well.

I put it down several times as I was doing a lot of knitting and the roses made me more mental than usual. I kept telling myself if I could just finish the ####ing roses the rest would be easy, and yes, by comparison, the skull was a breeze!

I laundered it last night and blocked it to dry in an old towel.  It shrunk very slightly (as I knew it would), and all the gaps between the threads are now gone! I will post it again when I get it framed. Then I'll give it to my boss as a thank you for putting up with me!

Thanks again everyone for your kind words.  And do not be intimidated....anyone who knows me will tell you I'm NOT a patient person, just a damned persistent one.

If I can do this, so can you!

LisaLady,

First of all, what a beautiful piece! Secondly, you absolutely inspired me...I went right out to Urban Threads and spent a bunch of money on patterns - including this one. A dear friend of mine just got a big ol' tattoo of this very thing on her arm and I decided this would make a good present! I spent the past month working on it and finished it just this weekend. Mine, however, isn't as gorgeous as yours is, especially on the back, but it will suffice, I think.

I'd love to post a picture of my finished piece, but apparently I haven't posted enough here for the powers that be to let me show it to you quite yet. I guess it gives me an excuse to post a little more, huh? <wink>

Dearest K,

It makes me feel all kinds of warm and happy to know that I inspired someone, thank you!  Kiss I can't wait to see your piece.

Mine now has a frame but has not been framed...I'm waiting for my DH to come back from his business trip to help me mount it, as he is much better at it than I!

Ok...I uploaded a picture of this to my flickr page, I think. For a computer geek like myself, I'm woefully ignorant on how to share my stuff!

I have plans to iron the thing better, then to perhaps put it in a shadowbox. Heck, I might just hand it to Kelly and tell her to frame the thing herself! (I'm already working on my next gift...I'm such an addict)

Lisa, you absolutely did inspire me. I hope you don't mind that I did the same exact pattern, and while I used a few different colors and methods, I printed out a copy of your pictures to compare. You did such a lovely job!

http://www.flickr.com/photos/38601569@N07/3613996757/

I'm still trying to get my 15 posts! <<wink>> I am sort of new to Craftster, but not new to crafting...and I have a goal of being able to participate in one of them there swaps coming up! <3 Thank you all!

Lisa, I made it to 15 - and was able to upload my picture to my personal gallery. (you told me to come back & tell ya!) Still, I'd rather not post my version here, because this is your thread celebrating the awesomeness of your work - I am here to cheer you on! <<hugs>> But I think if you click on my name, the piece you inspired is there!

Again, most awesome work, and please know that your crafting has inspired me to make a great gift for a friend. Were it not for you, I wouldn't have even heard of Urban Threads, nor would I have considered such a piece! For that I thank you!

PS - my friend has seen the finished piece and she was so excited! Bonus!
