Dinners at my boyfriend parents' place inspired me to do this. His father is from Holland and has quite the collection of delightful delftware on display. I just HAD to attempt to embroider them a 'plate.'

I didn't actually get to fully complete it before my deadline.. (giving it to them)  But I thought it still looked presentable, so I did.

I did not manage to take any proper photographs of the 'completed' piece. I tried to take a few during the car ride there, it was so shaky... and then my camera died.

It's in an 8 inch loop. The artwork was from a delft coffee grinder I have.

This is a much more accurate photo of it (colours, french knots, it's general appearance)

monocromatic designs drive me bonkers, but they always end up looking super awesome.  I'm really digging how the shading turned out.  I would have had a hard time giving this baby up.

I LOOOOOOVE this!!! When I was in Holland I went to the factory and watched them make Delftware. Did you draw the design yourself? It's wonderful!

Woah... that's amazing. I could never get my work to look so neat.

I think it would be really cool to do a version inspired by Chinese porcelain in the same color palette.

How did you frame it?

Thanks everyone, I appreciate the compliments!

It was definitely a little hard to give it up, my embroideries are my babies... This guy turned out exactly as imagined.

I was extra meticulous with the back's appearance, it's my best so far! I wish I had a photo. : (

The design is from my delft coffee grinder.

I just framed it by trimming the back and hot gluing the fabric to it's wooden hoop. Then I hot glued a folded-over, blue head band around the outer perimeter.
