I have made a few embroidered badges. They are 1.5 to 2 inches across. The designs are improvised and were done while 'on the go' (I love small portable projects.)

The base for these is 14 count Aida cloth. I want to make scout merit badges for completely silly things but I am disappointed by my borders. They look better in person but are still crooked. In my next attempt I am putting fusible interfacing on the top of the Aida cloth to make it smoother and help when folding the border. The biggest problem is the rounded corners where I get a bunch of Aida cloth bits poking through my edging.

Right now I am working on a design based on Mexican Loteria. I chose 'La Bota' because I had an old cowboy boot windows icon to work from.

Mexican Loteria La Bota (Boot) Pattern

I have a tutorial on my blog on how to make a pattern from a 32x32 Windows icon. http://tinyurl.com/ddsr68 there are plenty of small 32x32 icons that can be found on the web and used as inspiration for cross-stitching. Some of the cutest ones, including licensed characters can be found at Icon Factory http://iconfactory.com/freeware/icon?page=69 (Queued to the oldest icons from 12 years ago . Work you way back! I had a lot of fun working on Cartman.
