My friends, younger sister and I are going to the Harry Potter and the Half Blood Prince midnight showing, so I decided to hand carve wands! Shocked
I'm going as Tonks, since I wanted to dye my hair pink anyway!  Cheesy  I'm not pleased with my wand, so I'm not posting it, but my sister's is amazing, in my opinion.
She's going as Ginny and I'm surprising her with this...

Detail shot.
It's all hand carved out of Hibiscus my mom let me cut off her trees. Cheesy
I have to let them sun dry before I can paint/stain them, but I really want to finish them now!  Cry
(Please forgive the horrible pictures and the funny faces.  I just came in from outside and it's 92 outside and I was too lazy/hot to try to find the digital camera, so for now it's webcam pics.)

That IS gorgeous!  Did it take a long time to carve?

thats a gorgeous wand.  I really like it the way it is... IMHO you should just oil it.  But I mean, really its your creation so paint/stain it if you must!  Grin

I think I worked on it for, like, 2 hours.
But 30 minutes or so was trying to get the tools to work as they should and I kept coming in and out to cool off.  Cheesy

I'm trying to keep it as close to the books/movies as I can, and Ginny's wand is really dark.

I think it would look awesome with a black lacquer stain on it.  You did a really nice job of carving it.  Well done.

Aww, thanks.  I don't have the money to buy stain, so I'm going to paint it with what acrylic paint I have and use spray varnish to give it shine.
