We made this "weekend project" drag out over a month. Heh heh heh... so the whole house will have an undertone of steampunk but we wanted the living room/dining room area to have a more neutral welcoming vibe to it and less of an industrial teatnus shot vibe Wink

This is what we came up with. The first 3 are before shots, the last are the now. Hope you like! There are a few more things I want to add in to emphasise the industrial feel (like filling the empty jars with old keys and gears, hanging up a patina mirror...). On to the pics!

before shot- in the living room facing the dining room. Love that wall paper

before shot- from the dining room toward the living room

before shot- the worlds worst wallpaper... wait... you haven't seen the bathroom yet...

after shot- in the living room looking into the dining room

after shot- kick ass media cabinet with my apothocary jars

after shot- full jars and a skull for good measure!

after shot- looking over the typewriter table behind the couch toward the living room

after shot- we have a table! Zomg, I forgot what its like not to eat off my lap

after shot- the last of the tulips from our side yard (thats the garage door opener in the corner)

after shot- neat old bontanical sketches

I almost $h!t my pants whe I got to the pic after the closeup of the wallpaper.  For half a second, I thought your windows were built-in aquariums!  The blue hue outside looks like water! and even though I saw the "before" pics, the windows didn't really stand out to me.  The room looks cool though, even without B.A. fish tanks in the walls!

ETA: ...and this is coming from someone who has a 2-story wall of glass in her living room, as well as a 50 gallon aquarium.

Wow! Great job. I can't get over those windows! They are so awesome, and your doors are beautiful. Great color choice and selection on the dining room table as well (I hate when people crowd a nice space with over-sized furniture.) Where did you manage to find such a neat media cabinet?

Great job!  I like all the little accessories like the typewriter and skull.  You are definitely a girl after my own heart--- I think a simple and uncluttered space makes for a happy, uncluttered mind!  Smiley

LMAO about the fish tank comments! I tried using the flash but it washed out everything and when I played with the camera controls, the colors are more true this way... but even I admit that now it looks like big ass fish tanks- should have gone for a squid theme Cheesy

I got the media cabinet from whatonearth.com. I will say getting the thing to me was a royal cluster, it took over a MONTH to get to me. Apparently the manufactuer never shipped it  Angry but the lady at what on earth ended up giving me free shipping and a 20% discount so that was nice. Its a little smaller than I had hopped but I hate cluttered rooms so it works. Plus it holds my DVDs quite nicely and it was already assembled! Score!

I've been collecting apothecary jars for quite some time and was on the search for a perfect typewriter, we got this one at a great junk store for $15!

Our house was built in 1914 so it has some great origional wood work. The door is orgional to the house (it still has the old skeleton key hole) but the windows arent. It makes me sad because they used to be leaded glass but the new ones add so much light to the room and are more energy efficient so I will let it slide Wink

would you happen to know what color/brand the paint is?? i've been looking for a good green that doesn't look like split pea soup and this color is just so much warmer. i love the media cabinet, i'd say worth waiting for.

haha... My mom has that wallpaper in our downstairs bathroom... it's been there since *thinks* 1992, I think? I should offer to redo that bathroom for her!

My mom went on a really sickening Victorian kick for a long time, which would have been pretty if her idea of Victorian wasn't pale blue and pink everything.

I really like the changes. The room looks WAY bigger now!

Its Ralph Lauren "Pine Needles", I'm pretty sure its part of their bungalow collection. Its great because in some light its more brown than green, but in others its this great warm green. I love it!

Ugh- thats the worst! My idea of Victorian is more Edward Gorey Wink

Nope! It was in the clearance bin at Walmart or Target after Halloween last year. I have way more Halloween decorations as year round decorations in my house then I should probably admit to Undecided

Great Gatsby y'all! This room was featured on the steampunk interior decorating mecca that is The Steampunk Home:
http://thesteampunkhome.blogspot.com/2009/07/evas-steampunk-naturalist-living-room.html

I was doing my daily stalk of the blog and literally spit a mouthfull of pink lemonade all over my husband. We then proceeded to do a fanboy happy dance much to the amusement of our neighbors. Cheesy

Looks much more warm! Shows that you don't have to go all out with your $$$ to change the look and warmth of your room.

This is great! I clicked because of Steampunk in the title. I like the Steampunk style, but I don't like when it's overwhelming. I love the subtle touches that you made. Methinks we have similar styles. The typewriter is <3! And I just saw that apothecary cabinet on potterybarn.com, I think. Nice. So what exactly is that website that you mentioned? I went to whatonearth.com and found a site about earth being detroyed by meteroids. lol Is that correct? I'd love to know. Cheesy
