You met me at a really strange time in my life.

I recieved an embroidery kit from doo_leroux in the "I want to learn to _____ swap", and this is my first project, a mermaid patch that I sewed onto a purse when I was done. I'm really proud of it, because I really learned alot and I think it turned out alright for my first attempt!

some detail photos:

(this is before all the pattern lines were washed away)

(I'm not as happy as I could be with my work on the words. It seems a little sloppy, so I'll know where to put more focus next time.)

And here's how it looks on the purse:

I used satin stitch, backstitch, and split stitch. There's a few french knots thrown in so I could learn to make them, and I tried chain stitch, but ripped it out because it looked like a mess. I'll have to practice more.
Thanks for looking at my first project!!

You're a natural!  This looks really great with your tidy stitches.

This is terrific.
It looks pretty complicated to me, and you've clearly conquered the different stitch types well.
I think this is a great job and you should be really proud of yourself.

Are you sure this is your first time embroidering?  Because that looks fantastic!  Seriously, I think your stitches look better than mine.  You're a natural!

Also, I love the subject.  Mermaids are awesome, and I love that this is something more than the standard "pretty ocean pin up" approach.  Very cool, very different.

This certainly is labor-intense for a first attempt!  Shocked
You have done a terrific job on this. The patch fits well on the purse too.
