White Speedylock 1600 troubleshooting - help please

I have had my machine for about 6 years now. I am an expert at threading and checking tension and making sure the thread is in the tension disks. I have replaced my needles and checked their positioning. All the sudden the left needle is not catching the looper.

I have searched the net and found only one suggestion that it may need a timing adjustment. Dose that sound right? Is this a problem that can only be fixed by a pro or am I missing something after going over it for an hour?
