prank on housemate, need help with paint or similar
«
on:
May 02, 2009 05:39:38 AM »
OK so I want to play a prank on my housemate. I was thinking of painting something crazy on his bedroom walls while he's away, like unicorns mating or something. I wasn't sure if I could get away with using tempera paints, watercolors, finger paint, or similar and then washing it off later with a sponge.
He has orange walls.
<-----like that
I have until Monday.
Whaddya think?
UPDATE: I did it... MUAHAHAHA!
http://www.craftster.org/forum/index.php?topic=303657.msg3473542#msg3473542
PS Of course I will help clean up/remove the image. That is, if he doesn't want to keep it!

haha! my friend has that shirt!
Since it has so few colors, maybe you could just cut it out of paper/contact paper (test if it doesn't take his paint off) and stick it on the wall? The best pranks are the ones that don't do permanent damage, and paint is likely to do that. Especially since he has orange walls, which would make it hard to paint over because of matching the color.

My previous roomie painted his walls with tempera and it works well/looks amazing, but he still lives there, sooo, I don't know how easily it washes off.
Here's a pic for the hell of it.

Do you have any old pots of paint that might match his walls anywhere in the house? Basement, garden shed etc? Atleast then you'd be prepared if it didn't come off.
I love the idea though. I love sillyness like this.

I'd suggest if your doing something as simple as the unicorn design from the t-shirt, head out to your local dollar store and buy contact paper. It sticks well and will come of with zero issues. It still gives a great effect and it is very convincing especially when its freshly put up. You have zero worrries about paint and I think it's a very passable solution for your prank....I cant wait to find out how your roommate reacts!

I think it would be better to starch fabric to a wall then paint that with tempera. Because unless the paint on the wall is high gloss you may have problems getting it off the walls.

That's easy - chalk!
As long as you don't press down too hard on the wall with the chalk stick (think more layers of colour instead of rubbing it hard), it should come off nicely with a wet sponge.
And none of that artist's chalk thing - just good ol' classroom chalk. Artist's chalk is harder to clean.

You could use tempera on his windows & that would wash off no problem! We used to paint the store windows downtown with pumpkins & ghosts for halloween...and it all washed off!
I painted the walls in my college dorm with neon tempera paint & it washed off of those, but the original wall paint needs to be either glossy or eggshell finish to be washable I believe! Good luck!

Thanks everyone for all your ideas. :-)
(btw moxiepurple I love the funky painting your roomie did)
I decided to try my luck with the washable finger paint by testing it in a discreet location on the wall itself. I waited a few hours then came back. It washed off really easily with a wet sponge.
So, next step will be to paint the wall. I think this will happen tomorrow afternoon. Muahahahaha! I'll keep you all posted.

Thanks! I was going to send the link to his art work, but I guess he didn't renew the website. Oh wells. He does all kinds of freaky surreal images.
