I have just finished this baby blanket. It was done in 3ply (fine worsted) and is based on a traditional Shetland lace pattern.

Here is a close up of the corner and the lace edging and border.

Not great photos, I know!

The middle garter stitch square was knitted flat and then I picked up all round and knit on the lace edging with mitred corners.  The final border was knitted on sideways - it took 10 rows of border pattern to use up 5 stitches from the lace edge.

I'm pleased with it but I can see ways in which it can still be improved so I am now working on another one.  You'll see it here soon!

I just want to say that if you want to try somethiong like this it is well worth the effort as although it is a little slow going, it is not difficult at all!

Thank you.  I took about 3 weeks, just knitting in the evening while watching TV.  Wink

Your baby blanket is absolutely stunning! I rocked this post, as I am in awe of anyone that can knit lace. I'm a newbie knitter and lace scares me Shocked)

That's absolutely beautiful.  I tend not to knit blankets in one piece because they're kind of hard to travel with, but the thought of not having to seam!  I have to admit, I'd love to see more close up shots of the blanket.  I love looking at lace work.
