Bad-mouthed Beatrix Potter Embroidery (lots of pics, one cuss word)

This is for a long-time friend of mine who has cancer... again. It's back, it's mean, it's going to be with her forever as she lives in and out of remission. And live she will; I don't know anyone tougher than she.

It's stretched over stretchers designed for artists' canvas.

I covered the back (which is a mess - you can tell I've never stretched canvas before) with unbleached muslin that I personalized and then covered the edges with this wide twill tape I had laying around and attached a hanger.



A closer look at the teeny tiny stitches that I did in the car. I didn't get any blood on it at all!


I used gimp from my stash to add a touch to the edge and a black upholstery nail to finish it off.

Firsts for me on this project:  mixing floss colors on the needle (is there a term for this?), split stitch, stretching across stretcher bars, playing with toile, crafting a cuss word and using the mature img feature here.

UPDATE: I gave it to her today (May 14) and I think she really liked it!  At the very least she liked that I made her something.  Whew!

OMG I sooooo love this its super duper fab!!! The idea is great and I am totally going to borrow it....I have some toile that I have no clue what to do with....now its gonna have naughy words and get framed as Xmas gifts!!!!

Thank you!  I'm trying to be looser with my stitching and feel like I accomplished it a bit here, but some people are giving me a little flack about that. Ahem, you know who you are.

That's wonderful.  When a good friend of mine was hospitalized with cancer our fav nurse had a big, neon pink pin that said "CANCER SUCKS!" and we loved her for it.  This seems like the after work version.  Lovely stitching, too.
