well, actually they're polyester scarves but you'd never know lol! I saw a bunch of damamged scarves in a charity shop near my mum's house for 10p each (that's $0.20 ish). Being inspired by one of march's hot projects, the no pattern, whatever you can get hold of scarf I thought "wayhey!" and bought 5 of the scarves. I had a design in mind, I also had all the findings like the handles and such just sitting in my craftroom.

I ripped them into strips about 1/2" thick and then began a circular crochet of my own design, leaving a notch out of the top on each row....

I then repurposed a plastic hippy-bead necklace I've got and beaded the thing too. oh, and cut up an old nightie to line it with satiny fabric.

I'm not sure whether to keep it, I'm sooo in love with it, but my mum in law would also love it and hey I can always make another lol!

whole project took 5 hours or so.

i love how as a side effect of the ripping, this style of fabric looks like birds.
this especially shows up by the colors you chose.

I've been doing most of my recycle/rag crochet with monochromatic fabric.  The scarves really add another dimension.  I love the way the original scarf patterns look once they're crocheted together.  This is really lovely.

Very cool, the patterns/colors and the beads make it very bohemian. Great way to take something past its prime and make it something fabulous.

I love this!  I'm always drawn to those piles of cheap scarves you find in charity and vintage shops and have a bag of them sitting in a cupboard.  I never know what to do with them, but I'll definitely be making a couple of these now.  They'll be perfect for summer!

This is so so so so awesome!! I am really amazed. I'm not a crocheting person so I have no idea but I am so impressed by you using the scarves. These could sell for so much money. And send me to your thrift store where scarves are that cheap!

This purse is a work of art!  It's so beautiful!

Can I ask how you attached the handles?  Did you just fold over the top and stitch them on? I have a set of circle handles that I picked up cheap, but I'm puzzled about how to use them! (sometimes I'm a bit dense that way!)
