Laughing Monster...Ha ha! Plenty of images

I painted this guy with watercolors about 2 months ago to use as a theme for my blog titled (Me) and the Blogmonster. I was pretty please with the way the picture turned out... I didn't have a plan on colors, but it came together okay.

Thanks!!! I used to do a lot with acrylics, but could never get any finished paintings to look as vibrant as with watercolors. I just use the kiddie-box style solid watercolors and I've been surprised at how well things turn out.

I'm no expert, myself, but what I try to do is find the balance between using too much water and too little. If I use too much water, it ends up being pastel-ish and soft and girly looking. If I don't use enough, and there's way too much pigment on the brush, it looks too hard and I think they look like marker drawings or something.

I like to use a bit of water and kind of let it sit on the paint pot a minute so lots of paint dissolves into it and it becomes really dark, then I add more water either to the paper as I'm painting, or to the pot.

I hope some of that made any sense!!!

Hmm, I wouldn't say harder. Just different. My experience isn't really extensive, though, and I've never really learned any real technique. I would LOVE to take some art classes some day.

Just try to paint with some watercolors, mess around a bit. You might fall in love! I've also used my acrylics in a watercolor style. I'll post an old set of paintings I did with acrylic to look like watercolor, then link back to it.

I have seen another painting on here recently where someone used the same techinque. Yours are truly beautiful!! I find working with acrylics (and I am quite new) somewhat difficult because they are goopy and I always seem to texturize my paintings lol when I don't mean to. You've def kicked me ass into trying this...again, you paintings in this thread and your link are beautiful!!

I love your little monster! The colours are so crisp and all of the little details are amazing.
