QUESTION!!! QUESTION!!! QUESTION!!!!
i'm a wimp so i have yet to dye my hair... but i'm hoping to soon tho. but i've been told (repestedly actually) that you can't dye over black or blue... i kinda love my hair the way it is now but it is too... boring... so if i dye my hair black when it starts to grow back out and you  can see my dirty blonde roots... can i dye it all back to blonde-ish??
thanks

You CAN'T get rid of black without taking drastic measures. I've been dyeing my roots different colours this year while letting my black hair grow out. I've grown out most of the black now:
February:

July:

November:

See those black streaks I still have?? It's been almost a year since I put ANY black dye in my hair, but....no coloured dye I've put on my hair has affected the black part at all. It doesn't get dyed over, it doesn't fade, and even the bleaches I've used haven't worked! I can't get rid of it! You'd have to have your hair chemically stripped, which by all accounts is pretty nasty. Nothing to do but cut it all out. I don't recommend dyeing your hair black, unless you like having short hair or you're willing to make a several-year committment to having black hair.

this is for the girls that asked about getting their curly hair to do the right thing.   if you want your hair to be less curly/wavy, let it dry on it's own with whatever products you usually use to keep it from frizzing too much, then curl it with a curling iron without straightening it first.  the curling iron will smooth the hair folicals some without taking out all the curl like a straight iron will.

also, i'm white, but i have v. frizzy hair.  no amout of frizz-ease type products will work on me.  instead i use the spray on oils in the black folks section.  you just have to be careful and use it very sparingly or you will end up oily.

I'd recommend dark brown instead of black. Also, you can get it blond-ISH. It'd ruin your hair, obviously. Black to blonde is probably the worst you can do to your hair. You'd probably have to go to a salon and get highlights and keep comming back every few weeks. Or, you can strip it. But that'd kill your hair even more.

LetterGhost- What did you use to get your red roots? That color is so pretty!

As far as black to blonde goes, I have dark hair but put black over it. Then I had the underside bleached blonde. It actually went just fine. The hairstylist was impressed that we were able to get it so blonde.

I've been using L'oreal Colour Rays, alternating between the fuchsia and the red. It works really well on my naturally brown hair, and I don't have to bleach it separately.

I have a few questions.....

1-Is it better to wash your hair at night or in the morning?

2-Is there a such thing as a simple yet cool and easy to style haircut?

3-Are there any hairstyles that work for people with thick hair?

Thank you.
