I have a question,

If your roots start to show after a dye job, could you just dye the roots with something like Colour pulse, but I mean just at the top, - right on your roots. Or do you have to re-dye your whole head?

I have some questions about extensions...

I made the common mistake of letting a friend cut my hair about a week ago (I have sort of an a-line cut) and she did a great job with the back. But when she tried to layer the front she wound up taking a huge slice out of the front of my hair! So now the front of my hair is just below my chin except for this one part of the right side which was cut bluntly just above my ear and just sort of flops there at my cheek if I don't pin it back. But it looks fine if I part my hair way over to the side (which I do normally anyway) and pin the front part down 60's style. Still, I don't want to have to do this all the time...I miss my hair so much, I was trying to grow that part out and I wish I'd never let her touch it.

So I was seriously wanting to get some extensions in the front. I don't know anything about these, except what little I've read, and I live in a small town so I doubt there would be any stylists around here that would do it. But I travel a lot, so I'd be willing to have someone in the city do it while I'm visiting. I was hoping that they could put a few in the front and layer it so that it doesn't look so noticible. But then I'm worried about the tracks showing. I know I've seen girls with extensions in the front before, but I can't remember what they did to keep those from showing. Do you think this is even worth it?

Here is a picture of my hair now...

The little piece hanging down under my sunglasses is how short she cut the entire piece. I'm in the process of dying it purple right now, but as soon as I finish I'll try to get a pic of what it looks like not pinned.

If extensions are entirely not possible, I need to come up with some type of cut that would blend the front pieces together. But then it would be WAY too short. Maybe bangs? Blah...I just grew out bangs a year ago, I really don't want them back...but maybe it wouldn't be so bad. Any ideas?

There is a type of extension you can get that there is no braid involved and you cant see the tracks, its called UltraStrands......i  have them because my mom does hair and she wanted to try them out, they are actually really awesome.  Each little section of the hair that comes in the pack has this stuff on the end and there is a hot tool used to melt the stuff and then the melted stuff is mushed into a small section of your hair.  I wish i remembered what the "stuff" was.  But anyways, i would really sugest them, i wish i had a pic of mine but my camera is broken. It makes me giggle  because when i first got them people at school were shocked that my hair "grew" so fast just over christmas break.....so i guess they must look super real!

Thank you! I was just looking up some info on Ultra Strands online...I found several similar methods as well. There is a salon in Birmingham that does extensions, I'll give them a call and see what they offer. I knew this was going to be expensive (was thinking maybe 100-150 dollars) but I'm seeing prices quoted up into the thousands on some sites ( Shocked eeep!). Hopefully since I just want a few small pieces it won't be TOO pricey.

Now I think I'm going to go put in some overtime this week!

The "stuff" is keritain and these are pretty expensive here where I'm at.  A full head of these extensions will run you about $400.  I guess maybe that just seems like a lot to me bc I'm poor and I get my hair done for free.....

And yes, you can just dye your roots.  It's actually bad to recolor over the sections of hair that have already been colored.  If the color on the section that is growing out starts to fade then you can pull the color through to the ends about 5 min before rinsing it just to freshen it up.

Yes you can just do a root touchup. That is actually better than re-coloring your whole head because color on color damages the hair pretty badly after a while. You would just want to use the same color you used on the rest of your hair, but apply it only to the outgrowth.

yeah, I figure I can splurge $100-$175 just once for something like this. It will give me a chance to let my hair grow at least. But if it's anything rediculous I just don't have that kind of money.

Well I'm sure it depends on where your at as to how much it will be.  I would think that since you only want to do half your head it should only be half the price.  The main reason those extensions are so expensive is because of the price of the hair, not necessarily the labor.

Quite amazing.  Seriously, I'm in love with your hair.  How did you do it?  Can you post a picture with it down?  Sorry for all the questions, but thats the first time I've seen someone with hair the way I want mine.

Wow I love you xamiexnicolex! *hugs* Thanks lol. I got the foils done at a hair dresser to make blonde bits in my hair (next time I'll probably just belach it myself) and then bought some temporary hair colours (like a 7-20 wash kind of thing) and put the different colours in with a black brush (it's like a brush from a hair shop that's made for putting colours in your hair, so it's kinda thin, not like a big hair brush lol). If you have two different colours right next to each other, i guess you could tie up one section of that hair and colour the rest of the hair, then untie your other hair and colour that with a different colour, or act recklessly like me and just put colour whereever onto the blonde with out any planning or carefulness at all lol. Sorry for the lots of details, I think it's my ocd lol.

The main reason those extensions are so expensive is because of the price of the hair, not necessarily the labor.

When I had my whole head done I got fake hair that matched my color at a local store and it was pretty cheap.  All the salon did was braid it in--the expense was in the labor, because it took a few hours to do the whole thing.  (I had pretty small braids.)  The fake hair helped to hold the braids, and I left them in long enough to reach the small of my back.  After it was done, I occasionally needed touch ups, but I just had my friends do them. I kept them in for about two months.

For a cheap and easy, and no-track option, why dont you just get pinchbraids underneath in a few spots to fix it? It wont damage your hair, and you can even do it yourself. The red and black will be easy to match, and it is inexpensive.  I can dig up a tut on how to pinchbraid if you are adventurous, but most hair places can do them for you.
