When I taught myself to crochet a couple of years ago I was adamant that you'd never catch me making a doily...so I made this last night when nobody was about to catch me  Wink

Im the same way.  I never liked doileies.  But I must say you did a wonderful job on your first one!  Moms kitchen is red & white vintage-ish.  She would love that!  (its a good thing she hasnt seen this thread!  Or Id be making one sneakly at night for her when everyone was sleeping!)

Surprisingly it didn't Panther! I started it last night and finished it off this morning  Cheesy I've been out and got some proper thread and a 2mm & 1mm hook for my next two goes.

missmoppet, I think I'll be giving this to my Mum, not that she's really into doilies either but it will get used at Xmas no doubt  Smiley My choice of colour was literally because I didn't have a choice the red was the thinnest "string" I could find in my stash  Grin

wow this is beautiful. I'm very much a lover of doilies though, but have only made a few myself.

Great job. It is so perfectly symmetrical!

Since we are all giving our $.02 about doilies, I am not a fan when I see mass-produced ones in stores, but they suddenly seem so much more beautiful when I know they are handmade Cheesy

I was the same way when I discovered crochet (or at least patterns) but they're a great way to learn new stitches.  I recently made some doily coasters in royal blue and backed them with black felt- they work with my decor without looking like I have ducks and hearts in my kitchen.

That is really impressive, especially for a doily noob. I also really like the choice of color. Oooh...sudden idea to make similar brightly colored doilies as garment decorations and on bags...
