Simply beautiful! I spent time at an 1800's festival this summer and couldn't tear myself away from the rug hooking display. I asked so many questions! If I could meet your mother-in-law, I would sit at her knee for hours to try and learn all I could. I love this art form and hope someday I can try it. These are a wonderful legacy- I'm so glad your family is treasuring them and sharing them. Thank you for sharing them with us!

Wow!  Each time I thought there couldn't be more awesomeness, I'd scroll down to more awesomeness!

And she dyed the wool strips on her stove?  Incredible! We have it so easy these days.  Grin

I'm just so amazed at the patience this must have taken. I would be extremely grateful to have a family heirloom like this!

Those are absolutely stunning. Her use of colour is incredible. I cannot imagine the hours that must have taken!

My mom (81) has done this type of rug hooking as well and even to "just" make a small rug took quite some time!

You are right. Rug making is a lost art. I'm told by my own grandmother, that her mother used to create great pieces. Sadly, I never knew her, but I've felt closer to her by seeing your grandmother's masterpieces. We later generations seem to lack that
stick-to-it-iveness that our grandparents had. Soething about instant gratification in this fast paced world that's spoiled us. Thanks for sharing!
