Cool, but the intructions are a little vague.... I don't understand how you do the backing. or maybe it's just my inexperience.

i was a bit confused at the directions at first as well. the instructions keep referring to "the fabric" without specifying which one. so, here is my understanding:

1. you've got your strips, with all raw edges, all cut and ready to go.

2. use the hem tape to bind the edges of the large piece of monk's cloth to make the backing.

3. to attach the strips, you aren't actually threading them through the fabric, you're simply taking a few stitches in the center of the strip, on top of the monk's cloth. then you tie a knot and both sides are all nice and floppy on top and the bottom of the rug is nice and smooth.

although i'm sure craftjunkie's idea would work quite nicely, and much quicker and only slightly less finished-looking.

This is going on my to do list and it gives me a good reason to clean out hubby's dresser. lol   I think I'll try doing one with the hooked rug since I have some of that then another with the monk's cloth.

Oh!  I've been saving jeans to make one of these, but I couldn't remember where I found the instructions.  So glad to have come across this thread again!
