but I've been taking part in a fabric round robin which basically requires each of 12 of us to make a small (6"x6" usually) "art quilt" for each other member of the group

here are mine so far (7 down, 5 to go):

I hope you like them, this whole working with fabric / embroidery thing is all very new to me, but I'm, enjoying it very much!

*edited 27th April to add the latest one - needle felting and embroidery on felt*

only 4 more left to do now, I'll miss this project when it's done!

*edited 8th May - here's #9 - foundation pieced mini quilt with beaded accent*

*edited 6th July - here's #10, way overdue, life's been getting in the way - reverse applique'd shrooms  *

2 to go

Wow, you are making me want to try my hand at this. These are awesome, but it also looks like a time-consuming project. How long would you say they took you?

These are all really great. What strikes me is the diversity of them, in terms of colour, execution and content. Very clever and I would imagine it's a great way to learn a variety of skills etc. that you can use in future quilting adventures.

Really good stuff!  Grin

thanks everyone, it means a lot to get positive feedback from you guys who actually know what you're doing Smiley

I have only ever really tried my hand at papercrafts before, and a bit of jewellery – I’ve always been a little scared of fabric, and sewing – so this is quite an adventure for me!

In reply to the question of how long they each took, everything tends to take me a lot longer than most people, I’m not a speedy worker, and also I’m at work full time and have 3 kids, lots of pets, a house and a serious ice hockey habit to manage, so I don’t get a lot of time for crafting.

All that said I’d say most of these took around 10 hours or so spread over 2 weeks.

The quickest ones to do were the purple one with the tree, as the only sewing really was the hem around the edge, sewing the focal square on, and sewing on the beads.  Although the fabric was hand dyed so that took a while as I did a little batch of it.   And also the reverse appliquéd jellyfish – it’s all hand sewn but the pieces are only small so it didn’t take too long.

The one that took the longest was probably the one with the gold harlequin pattern, I seemed to be embroidering that for weeks!

These are fan-flippin'-tastic!

I love and am seriously coveting the green one with the alien face in it!

And you're like the ninth person this month on the board who's posted stuff and said, "I've never done this before" and your work is nothing short of spectacular!

*Getting seriously green-eyed here...*
