Hi y'all, this is my first topic! Smiley
So, a while ago I had a little problem. I accidently ripped my jeans badly across the thighs and I asked my Grandmother (Who is a sewing whiz) to fix them up, but she never got round to it. One evening I was visiting and had nothing to do so started to look through her material drawers, where I found my jeans. I was hit with a flash of inspiration and finished this bag within 3 hours, including the tricky applique. Here you go:

The closed bag

The bag showing the applique and working pockets

Here's the back. The straps were made from the legs of the jeans, but didn't use too much material. I think I still have some left over. Cheesy

I'm a Twilight fan, and I made a shiny apple to sew on the front. The image is pretty bad, but it was some of my first un-aided applique.

The Superman applique. This was really hard and took nearly a third of my time. I'd advise you to try something a little easier for first time applique. Cheesy

And finally, the antique buttons. These are amazing, and apparently came from my great-grandfather's army uniform. I'm really lucky.

Well, there you go! That's it, my first topic.  Grin If there is a demand for it, I suppose I can post a tutorial. Just let me know what you think!
Thanks,
Rebecca.

I think this is great, and I was going to attempt one of the jeans bags also. I think your idea is more up my alley. Love backpacks! I have like 7 pairs of ripped old jeans I could use. Any tips?

Just keep it simple. Use what you can of the jeans designs, it looks a lot more fun. Smiley Just make sure you get the measurements (straps in particular) right, or it can go a bit funny. For example I made mine in such a way that the flap is too big to let you see the applique without stuff falling out. It's really sturdy though, and holds a lot of stuff.
P.M me if you want to know anymore.

I think this is such a fun looking backpack.  I don't sew, but I know someone who does, so I'm going to see if I can work a deal.

Great job.  I'd love to see a tute on this one.

oh I wish I had found this before I threw out my jeans!  this is fan-freaking-tastic!!!  I have a pair of jeans that don't fit me anymore (then again, I don't think they ever did.  after one wash they went from fitting me to fitting someone about a foot shorter than me).  maybe I'll fish them out and make this!!!  I need a new bag anyway...

Glad you all like it. Smiley
I'm going to be putting a Tute up sometime soon, considering I just ripped my favourite jeans. Sad
@Krafty and Boo: Go for it. It's really fun making bags like this. I would advise you to make a lining for it though, if you do. I didn't, but I will be soon.
