I hosted a dino themed baby shower this past weekend and made a dinosaur cake- my first. I got the idea from allrecipes.com, but it came out so great I wanted to share a photo.

I used yellow candy decorations for the spots and blue Wilton candy melts for the scales across the whole back.

I want a dinosaur birthday cake.  *is jealous*
Nice work---how did you get that frosting so green?
ETA:  I know it's a baby shower cake, but I'm not ready for a baby yet.  Grin

Oh, it's just kittens.

I want to leave this world the way I came into it:  naked, screaming, and covered in someone else's blood.

That looks fantastic. Did you buy the mould or did you have to cut it to size?

To answer the questions, the icing was made green by adding the green gel icing (like the kind they sell for you to write with, with 2 cans of vanilla icing.

Under the dino icing is chocolate cake. I baked two round cakes and the body was cut from one cake while the head/neck and tail where cut from another cake. Then I pieced it together and glued it with icing, put a crumb coat on, froze it, put another crumb coat of icing on, froze again (about 45 minutes each time) and then I iced it all from there.

The face and toes are made from the black gel icing, just painted on.

And I think this would make a great b-day cake!
