This bag may look innocent enough, HOWEVER.....Ugh, this bag was a nightmare to construct.  Butterick really needs to review this pattern.  Between the weird construction and the horrendous directions this could proabably be the worst pattern I've ever made.  The final bag looks nice, but this took me about 3 weeks because I everytime I would work on it I got so frustrated I had to walk away.  There are much, much easier ways to make a tote like this!!!!

You can read my full review on my blog:  http://sewplicity.blogspot.com/2009/04/pattern-review-butterick-b5005-diaper.html

Has anyone else tried this pattern?  I'd love to hear your thoughts!

Haven't used the pattern and am probably unlikely to now !!!! I have to say however, your patience paid off - seriously gorgeous and professional looking and a wonderful choice of fabrics! Love it!

You did a great job with a cruddy pattern! I haven't tried this one before, but I had a similar problem with a terribly written walker bag pattern once. Luckily that one was easy enough for me to figure out where the pattern left off without too much trouble...

Butterick is not my favourite pattern company-but, I tend not to read the directions completely on any sewing project-oops!

Love the bag, worth the hassel! Love the colours, who is the fabric by?

The fabric is Marcus Brothers, Surf and Sand line.....I love the line - I've used it over and over and get tons of compliments.

I'm sorry you had such a hard time.  It worked though, your bag is beautiful.

I have sewn up several Butterick bag patterns, but haven't actually read the directions for any of them.  I typically just cut out the pattern pieces and then go for it.

Maybe you could write to Butterick and prevent others from your same frustration.

Butterick is not the best when it comes to explanation or instructions.  I know that from first hand experience.  The Butterick clothing patterns (in my experience) are no better.

That being said.....

I am SO glad you stayed with it.
Beautiful Bag.
Top-Notch workmanship.
Lovely Fabric.

End line is - I Love It.

I love this  bag!  Even though you say the pattern in frustrating, I may have to snatch it up.  Maybe I can figure out my own way to put it together though.  Wink
