I want to make my boyfriend something really fun and quirky, just out of the blue.  He's very indie/rock, very involved in the kitchen and very artistic.  He absolutely loves movies.  I need some inspiration, because coming up with brilliant and original ideas isn't my thing, although I can follow any directions.  I've already made him a stuffed animal based on his favorite webcomic.  Any suggestions?

Make him a manly apron. That would just be fun.
Or make him a special "box set" type thing for his favorite movie.

To tie together his love for the kitchen and movies, perhaps you could make him a sort of cookbook that has dishes that relate to some of his favorite movies? (ex:  japanese food if he's into foreign films, etc.)  Just an idea.

or you could make personalized plates, perhaps transparent glass ones decorated with movie posters underneath?

I am quite intrigued by this idea.  How would one go about making such plates?

The plates would be cool, not sure how you would seal them to use them, maybe just for decoration?
If he likes to be artsy in the kitchen you could get him a decorating cookbook, they have some neat chocolate ones ummmm chocolate. Maybe cooking classes, you can always learn new stuff and it's a way for him to show off.

You could probably find really cheap plastic plates somewhere... the grocery store, the dollar store... And then decoupage the images face down on the bottom of the plate and seal it. A LOT. I don't know how it'll hold up to washing, but I love the idea.

This is a AWESOME idea!  I might actually do this to some sushi plates and then put it in a box as part of a "Sushi-in-a-Box" dealio. I need to add the decoupaged plates somehow.  Too good an idea to pass up.
