No packaging. But since I had never considered that the balls and rods might not be intended as one unit, I can certainly see now how the rods and caps might just be a shipping aqnd handling kind of thing.

I have no idea what they may be, going to have my electrican hubby look at the picture to see if he has any idea.

I do have an idea, what about making them into shades for fairy lights for the patio?

You could spray them with that opague glass paint or gallery glass to the colours of your decor.

Okay, he came, he took a look, he saw-the possibility of them being ornamental lightening balls, he said it is only a guess but thats his opinion.

Sorry, not much help.

I vote no on the lamp or general electric appliance idea - as soon as I saw them I was reminded of antique Christmas ornaments my mom has.  If there's a way to get them apart I'd hand paint those babies.

If they weren't intended as one unit, why does just the top one have a metal tip? Other than that, i'd totally buy the lightning ball theory.

The boyfriend says that they might be glass insulators/spacers for power lines. We can't find any pictures though. I'd wager a guess that they're electrical-related somehow.
I think you might be right:

They aren't exactly the same, but they could be old or from annother country...

This is just my opinion but it seems a shame to paint or cover them with something...I like the look of the glass.

I still think they'd look great as lamp bases though you've heard that about 50times by now.

I'd probably use a few as curtain rod finials.

wow they're really cool! mysterious... whatever they are I agree that I wouldn't paint them, they look strange and beautiful the way they are. I disagree about the lamp bases thing though, I think you should do something more unusual with them - chandelier has already been suggested but I second that.

Well I can definitely identify one of those things as a Sierra Mist can (delicious!)  Wink As for the rest, I'm not sure what they WERE but I think they might look good painted over/colored in some way (tissue paper, colored glass tiles) and hung up outside as some kind of garden decoration/suncatcher. They look about the right size for that, and it looks like they already have holes in the top and bottom.

Good luck. Smiley I hope to see what you can come up with to do with these nifty little glass bulb-thingies!

I also vote not to paint them. I think they are gorgeous they way they are.
