The sun has finally arrived in Vancouver!  YAY!  For this grand occasion, I made myself a new shirt.  I had some brown jersey kicking around (which had previously been destined to become leggings... didn't happen) and a lovely apple green T of my husbands.  A little cutting and pinning and sculpting on my new dressform and there it was!

So without further ado... me, Lucy (aka the Pink Fink, aka my bike), Mike and I went for a ride around the seawall, and paused to enjoy the sun and snap a few photos of the new shirt! (I have not been sewing in a long while, so I am excited to have actually made something!!)

Don't be scared...

And, just the top:

*afterthought:
There is actually no Mike to be seen in these photos as he was the photographer  Grin Ah well.

 Grin Thanks for the comments...

I often look a bit crazy in photos, which makes me assume I just look crazy in life, which I am okay with.  But, yes, I am indeed pleased with the shirt!   It is nice and long, so my bum does not escape while I am furiously pedaling about town and it allowed me to experiment with cowls.

Had anyone done a top with a BIG cowl that you could use also as a sort of hood?  Hmm...  Smiley

Thanks ladies!  Grin

I have recently begun commuting to work on Lucy, so I am in need of longer, breathable tops.  I've been thinking I may try to make some out of more atheleticy materials (should anyone have any fabric suggestions, they'd not go unappreciated!), as I find it difficult to find reasonably priced, large-sized athleticwear.  Humm...

Anyway, thanks again!  I appreciate the compliments.

Ooo love those colors! Makes me yummy for a caramel apple! Those are great pictures, too. I'm assuming the shirt is one layer? Or is there brown on the inside?

The newer materials used in athletic wear that are advertised to wisk away wetness and keep the skin dry are made from 100% stretch woven polyester. Most compression pants (biker shorts, capris, and pants) are made of 88% polyester/12% lycra spandex. Swimwear material is an alternative if you can find it at a good price also.

Years ago most of the tops were cotton/rayon jersey, but technology has changed the way we dress and the materials used. I think a cotton/spandex jersey is still being used in today's sports bra. Start looking at the sportswear and get to know the feel and what type of material you like, then you will be able to decide what type of material you prefer.

Thanks!  That is good info.  I will definitely do a little sleuthing and see what sort of fabric might actually feel nice but also perform well and go from there.  Tips much appreciated, purefairydust  Wink

Grin And more thanks everyone!  We are off to do another spin around the park today, which should be lovely.  I may just have to wear my new top once more! It is not so sunny today though...

Looks lovely!!! I love the colour combo!! And serious kudos for no pattern, I don't think I could manage to make something without serious instructions, lol! Maybe if I had a dress form... hmm....

I also find it hard to find plus size athletic wear in decent materials, so it's interesting to hear the fabric suggestions.

And, as a fellow Vancouverite (ok, Richmond-ite!) the recent brief spurt of sun was lovely! My sis's wedding was on Saturday, sun couldn't have appeared at a better time, lol!
