First craft fair: T-minus 4 days.

How much and what kind of money (US) should I bring in my cash box?  How many 1's, 5's, 10's?  I am planning on accepting checks, but I'm not set up for credit.

For those of you more experienced craft fair vendors, what do you recommend?

Thanks!

I usually carry $100.00, 20 ones.6 fives, and 5 tens. I keep this money in my pocket. I also have extra hidden away in case I get a run on 20 dollar bills.
Also, I don't recommend a money box. If you are busy with a customer, that box could turn up missing. Using your pocket or a fanny pack is a better option.
Oh yes, I don't add on tax. That is included in the price. This eliminates the need for small change.

Thank you, that's exactly what I needed to know.  Craftster folk are the best!

I only take $50 cash: 20 ones and the rest in fives. I have not had a problem making change all summer. Of course I accept credit cards too, so maybe that makes a dif.
So far as a cash box, the aprons work well and so do pockets, but there's something gross about being handed some warm damp bills. I have a 'cammo' box - just a hardcover book with the insides cut out and glued together. I can set it down on my wrapping table and, unless they see me pulling money out, no one knows it isn't just a book I'm reading when it's slow. When I DO make change I put the book in my lap so people don't notice.
