I am having a hard time finding classes in my area for things like beginners quilting and PMC jewelry making...or just general craft classes.  I'd love to find some weekend workshops in San Francisco, possibly in May.  I have tried Craft Gym but came up empty on finding any dates.

Any pointers would be welcomed!

I was looking for the same thing just recently.  I found The Crucible http://www.thecrucible.org/ which is pretty pricey but they have some amazing offerings.  Have you looked into any of the San Mateo County college courses?  Tons of stuff through them.  I know you asked for San Francisco specifically, but I had a lot more hits looking south.

Thanks for the link!  I will look up San Mateo colleges too...doesn't have to be directly in the City.

I have a feeling Craft Gym won't be doing classes again. I keep waiting and watching their site, and nothing...which makes me sad. They look so cool!

If you're looking for quilting classes, I know New Pieces Quilt Store in Berkeley offers beginning classes: http://www.newpieces.com/index.php .

Also, in the City, Urban Fauna Studios has knitting, felting, and spinning classes: http://www.urbanfaunastudio.com/

EDIT: Oh! I almost forgot, Rock, Paper, Scissors Collective in Oakland also has a variety of crafty classes, and also an open crafting night every other Thursday. http://www.rpscollective.com/

I hope this helps!

Hopefully it's not too late for this, but...

Stonemountain and Daughter in Berkeley has all sorts of sewing classes and the best is that they have all sorts of fabrics from quilting to tailoring.

I've also taken some little weekend sewing classes at City College in SF as well as Canada College in Redwood City (if you want to travel that far).

The Sewing Workshop has excellent classes and I love the little community.

Lacis, this lace store in Berkeley near Stonemountain, also offers lacemaking and knitting.
