This is the outcome of my long-term art crochet project (I bought the yarn in Aug 2007 and started working on it in Apr 2008!)...

A realistic, life-size crocheted baby orang utan. He was sooo much work because I put a lot of hidden detail into him that help to make him look more realistic. You can see how poseable he is:

His hands and feet are wired with a pipe cleaner frame that I crocheted over. His body and limbs use a plastic poseable doll armature (skeleton). I had to customize the skeleton a lot to go from doll proportions to orang utan proportions (dolls don't usually have arms down to their knees!). I then sewed quilted fabric over the skeleton so he wouldn't feel too 'bony' from the outside, and to keep the backbone at the back! And I improvised a wire frame (floral wire) to go inside the head so it would be supported and wouldn't flop about.

Here's a little nod to the fellow Discworld fans (OOK!)

Um... what else can I tell you... I'm not sure! If you have any questions, please ask and I'd be happy to answer them Smiley

He was a lot of work, but I think it was time well spent because I love him! I hope you'll like him too.
