They are 3D. They're made of some kind of very thin metal.

A little backstory on the "Voice" page. The image is of Lina Cavalieri, a famous opera singer from the early 1900's. She became a ward of the state at 15, when her parents died.  She was unhappy at the orphanage and ran away with a theatre troupe.

Your little book is so beautiful. The little metal pieces look like milagros, or "miracles" in Spanish. Basically they are used as offerings. So for example, the eyes, if you were blind or had bad eye sight or wanted beautiful eyes, you would use the milagro as an offering or a good luck charm.

Yes, they are milagros. There is actually a couple of small ones, like the eyes and little girl in your link, hanging in with the fibers on the binding that you can't see in the pictures. I've used that size before, but never the larger ones.
