You always have such great pictures of your items... Do you use a special camera or a special photo-editing program?
Thanks! But nope. I use a Cannon Powershot SD1100is - it's an ultra compact point-and-shoot that's a couple years old now. It takes good shots though. I use a LOT of light, no flash and the manual macro setting. Then I usually crop and brighten a smidge in a really old copy of Paint Shop Pro and that's about it. You can buy light boxes and special lamps and such but I'm poor so I make due. If you google things like "make your own light box" you can get tips on how to set up for jewelry or other close-up photos in greater detail, but honestly? I find it's a lot of trial-and-error. It helps though to have a camera with good macro abilities. It's always a priority for me because of the jewelry and because it's my favorite type of photography to take in general.

Thanks for all the great info Smiley By light, do you mean natural light or indoor lighting?

Both. I try to take shots during the day but I also use an OTT light (which better represents the natural spectrum of light) to ensure it's bright enough without the flash. Flash ruins the shots and blows out the detail. If you don't have an OTT Light specifically, any clip lamp or bendable lamp with a broad-spectrum or "daylight" bulb will work fine. (Just check your camera's white balance levels to ensure it's compensating for the type of light you use.)

Check out any of these results for more ideas on how to set it up. Cheesy

I am also cursed with a finepix crapola.  Could there BE a longer delay between shots?!?!?!  And the battery crapped out on me....so I have to use it plugged into the wall until I can order a new one off ebay.  Roll Eyes

I know! Seriously... I was so excited when my Mother gave it to my husband and I four years ago for our honeymoon but now, not so much. If money grew on trees... oh the things I would buy... *sigh*

I highly recommend looking around for "refurbished" cameras. I have a Kodak something or other 10 mp that is fabulous (way better than every camera i've ever had, save my SLR) and got it for like $50 (its a $200 camera). It takes amazing pics!

Also, I've seen my exact model camera at Costco. Since it's a slightly older version they carry it on a closeout. I think it was around $150ish bucks. (It was $250 when I got it.) It's still a great camera.

Edit to add: Online only, this week, staples.com has the camera on it's ad cover for $129 (link) Just found it in case anyone is interested.
