Yup, finally decided to get a jump on my Christmas presents this year so I wouldn't have to scramble at the last minute!  I'm making stockings for my girlfriends for christmas (stuffed with homemade recipe books, spice rubs, ornaments and a few other store-bought goodies!)

http://home.wi.rr.com/flamgirlant/x-mas%20stocking.jpg

(not sure if that worked, so try this link:  http://home.wi.rr.com/flamgirlant/x-mas%20stocking.jpg

I made a pattern out of a grocery bag.  My inspiration was the shoe section of a Frederick's of Hollywood catalog!  After a couple of samples and a few pattern changes, this is what I came up with.

I used grommets in the front and 'laced' the boot up with organza ribbon.  The bottom of the stocking is stuffed so there is some dimension and it's fully lined - plenty of room for a wine bottle to fit snuggly inside!

Nothing says Christmas like a leopard print high heeled boot!

***This is my first post with a pic, so hopefully I did it right!!

Thanks for posting the pic!  I knew I wasn't doing something right.

Glad you guys like it - although no, not taking orders yet.  I'll be lucky to get dozen or so I want to make done by x-mas!

As for how I made it, it was a test in creating my own pattern.  Basically, what you see in the pic is what the pattern is.  Finished piece is about 20" long.  The pattern is about 21" (small seams).  Warning - it's a bit long!

I made it like a purse.

1. Cut out the two pieces of the boot and interfacing - iron on the interfacing.

2. Pin the fabric right sides together and sew a 1/4"  to 1/2" inch seam all the way around - leaving the top open.

3. Turn right side out and push out all corners (a pencil or chopstick or nail file works well for heel and toe).

4.  Stuff toe, heel and rest of boot with fiberfil until it has a nice shape.  Stuff up to ankle of boot.

5.  Cut a piece of your stocking fabric out (roughly 3" by  5" - this is your loop to hang it from).  Fold the piece togther, right side to right side and stitch along edge.  Turn inside out and match up raw edges.  Pin to stocking with raw edges matching top of stocking, along the back part - remember, this is how the stocking will hang.

6. Cut out two pieces of liner material.  When laying out the pattern keep in mind that you will be stuffing the toe and heel parts of the boot.  Basically cut out enough lining to make it as deep as the 'ankle' of the boot.

7.  With right sides of lining together, sew 1/4"  to 1/2" inch seam down the sides of the liner (leave the top and bottom parts open).

8.  Pull liner (still right sides together) over the top of the stocking.  (Right side of lining to right side of stocking).  Make sure hanging loop is between stocking and lining.   Line up the top pieces and sew the lining to the stocking all the way around - careful not to sew the stocking shut!!  This will also secure your tab to

9.  Turn lining right side out.  You will now have your stocking stuffed with the lining sticking up.  All you have to do is turn the raw edges inside and stitch the edge shut.  Shove the lining down inside the boot and voila!!  All done.

Sorry if I didn't explain it well, and I don't have a digital camera yet, but when I get one, I'll take pictures.

That is THE coolest thing I have seen all day. (And I've been on Craftster for hours.) You really need to sell those.

EDIT: I read your instructions over and decided to give it a go. Do you think maybe you could scan or make up a pattern on the computer? I know you said you don't have a digi cam, but maybe someone you know (or you) has a scanner? I really am a horrible drawer and to attempy to freehand your flawless stocking would look terrible. If anyone else tries this, could you share your pattern? I'd really apprecitate it!

I'm glad you all like it!!

My computer died about 2 months ago -- and I haven't had the funds to fix it.  I've been lurking around her while at work (ssshhhh... don't tell my boss!!)  I'm hoping to have my home computer up and running again by the end of the month, so I'll do my best to scan in the stocking when I'm running again!  I'll post the scan as soon as I can.
