OK - this is the first time I have joined a Craftster Challenge, and since I made this a while ago for a swap partner I hope that it is acceptable for this challenge as I really liked the way it turned out. I don't have any photos of the production process, sorry...

It is a three dimensional mini quilt that I did for my partner because she liked Saturn - and I made all the rings in multi colored buttons.

close up of the buttons:

all of the little sections had batting in them so they would stand out, as well as the planet, and the entire piece also had batting between the art work in the front and the back piece.

For size, the original piece of black that I quilted on was a fat quarter, so the finished size was just a bit smaller than that. It was finished on both sides, but the buttons are only on the front. I think that the back was the same as the mini tote bag that went with it - so it could be reversable - but I don't remember as I have made a lot of things since then...

In case it isn't obvious, it is a landscape looking out at the planet Saturn as it rises over one of it's moons, and it was meant to be a bit random and angular as that is all rocky outcrop type stuff.

It was completely hand sewn and I think I used about a ga-zillion buttons!

If I ever get the chance, I think I want to make another one only maybe smaller and do a full solar system and then the milky way - maybe if I slow down on all the swapping I do, LOL!

hope you all like!

Ronda

LOOKING FOR A PERSONAL SWAP: I'm hoping for dinosaur-themed Xmas crackers, or other dinosaur Xmas items. I can make a Jayne Cobb hat, or many other things!

My first thought when I read that it was completely hand sewn was..."Are you out of your mind?"  Shocked But then I remembered that quilts used to be made entirely by hand--read Little house books?  And I sort beads by the hundreds...so what's the dif? Roll Eyes

Really cool idea! Cheesy
