Hey everybody! This is my latest adventure in leather. This was a present for my dear boyfriend for our 2 year anniversary/bday. I found a picture of a tribal dragon tattoo online, and used it to make this journal cover. Anyway, pictures!

Sorry a few of them are blurry.

Very nice!

How do you get the dragon on the leather exactly.  I mean, I know there's a process, but what's its name, I gots no clue as I never work leather! XD

I am looking to do a personal swap with (or will outright pay for) a knitter who could make an adult sized knitted t-rex sweater for Christmas. If anyone is interested, please let me know.

That is really beautiful! Is there anywhere on craftster that explains how to do leather work? Or does anyone have any good links for us to learn? It is something I would really like to get into! are a lot of expensive tools required?

This is gorgeous! You've done a great job on this piece and I know your boyfriend LOVES it!

What kind of paper did you include?

Excellent tooling job.  It looks very nice.  Did you put a finish on it, or is it burnished?

I was also wondering how you did this...  You don't see much stuff like this on Craftster, unfortunately.  Good job!

Thanks for all the lovely comments!
Now for the questions:
Q:How do you get the dragon on the leather exactly.
A: I have a special tracing paper. You trace the image onto the paper, then place it over the leather and go over it with a ball point pen-hard-and that will leave a slight imprint in the leather. You then use the rest of your tools to outline, etc.
Q:Are a lot of expensive tools required?
A: I bought a beginners kit from Tandy leather, and my aunt has been leather crafting for years, so she helped me on my first project. I used the kit for instructions, and I've never actually looked online for tutorials. The kit contains awesome instructions, and beginners kits. Here's the link to mine:
Q:What kind of paper did you include?
A: I bought a journal from Borders, this is actually a journal cover, he can slip it off and put it on another, if he wishes.
Q:Did you put a finish on it, or is it burnished?
A: I used a dye. This is french hide, so it doesn't take the  dye well, hence the streaking and blotches, but that's how I wanted it.
