I was in the recent tree swap, and was really inspired by Carambatack's work on her Etsy shop : http://www.etsy.com/shop.php?user_id=5002535. I love the idea of upcycling old books that either get thrown out, or sit collecting dust on my shelves lol.
These first two are the ones that I did for the swap: (I should've taken pictures after they were matted, the mattes really help them pop  Grin )

And here's one that is still at home with me, I am thinking of submitting it to the Arbor Day Foundation, cause come on!! Who doesn't love a tree?? Smiley

Hopefully I can get some better pictures up, the scanner did some wonky type things to them LOL!
But, I have to say this is my new favorite thing to do!! Smiley And I have a ton of book pages left WOOHOO!!!
C&C Are always welcome!! Thanks  Cheesy

Oh my gosh!! I really like these! I had never even thought of doing something like this with old paperbacks! If I had any artistic abilities to speak of, I'd have one heck of a weekend planned! But alas....lol. Great job!

I would give anything to have such talent!  I can craft my buns off but when it comes to drawing I am lost.  These are simply lovely!

Those are great.  What did you use for the color?  Is it watercolor?

Thanks everybody!! Smiley Yes they are watercolor, with black calligraphy type marker for the details! I did find out that I have to sketch carefully though, because the book is so old, if I try and erase stray sketch marks it takes the words right off the page lol!!

You inspired me to make up a few of these drawings myself Smiley I loved your first drawing; it reminded me of a woman. So I took that idea of a feminine looking tree & gave her a male looking tree. I don't know how to use water color and didn't have colored pencil, so I used permanent marker. It is the size of a business card so I put them on one of those magnets for business cards & it holds a picture of my neice onto my fridge. Thanks for the link & the photos! Your concepts are just amazing. It makes me wish I knew how to do water colors (and that I was better at drawing, doh! Tongue).

The thoughts of a woman ride the misty mountain tops & roam the lush valleys. The heart is just another lovely enigma.

Did you post pictures of what you created? I would love to see! You should get yourself a few tubes of watercolors (I prefer them to the dry cakes, just remember a little goes a VERY long way) And just play with them! They aren't that hard to manipulate... just a wash here and there is wonderful for projects like this! Hope to see what you did! Smiley
