I needed a dress for a fancy dinner last weekend, but I didn't want to buy any new fabric. So I whipped up this classy little frock in two days out of some plain white cotton and some black satin. I didn't have enough white fabric to line it though, so I had to cut up an old white dress shirt (good thing I kept that around!).

little heart buttons!

sorry about the bright pictures. cell phone. blah. My friends took some pictures at the actual dinner so maybe I'll post some of those when they get around to uploading them...

Oh wow, it is very classy! Reminds me a little of Blair Waldorf's style on Gossip Girl Cheesy it's awesome that you made something so nice out of fabric that was just lying around.

Inspired by other members of the sewing blogosphere, Ive dived straight in the deep end and abstained from buying any ready-made clothing until July 2012. It looks like Ill be window shopping for quite some time Check out my progress here: http://seamlessblog.wordpress.com

You need more replies! This outfit looks way cute and retro and utterly professional. If I had the same one, I'd probably wear it with ....peeptoes or if I'm feeling adventurous some bright coloured pumpssss. Some modern contrast....hey but your dinner is gone lol I hope you had a nice time with it. You should be proud!

Oh I love this!
I can't wait for summer, when I have my sewing machine again.
This is exactly the kind of dress I plan on making!
