Oh, yeah, also could we all throw out suggestions for the medium crafted items for this swap. I think at first some of us were stumped at what we might send.

I thought I'd include suggestions in the questionnaire.

I for one, would be happy to get a hodge podge of plying supplies. I realize that's not crafted, but maybe a grab bag of goodies with some handmade trinkets to ply in. That would be really cool.

Anyone else have any ideas?

oh so it doesn't necessarily have to be crafted with your yarn?  hrm... Thats a good question... now you've got me thinking!  But its to close to bed time... let me dream about that, instead of giant teddy bears coming to life and leading my child somewhere...... yeah weird....

See, being me, what I think I'd most like would be to send out handspun tarn and some tops, and receive handspun yarn and some tops. Because, you know, ALL THE AWESOMENESS. [grin] It's about time I learned how to card and dye, and it would be a joy to share the amazing silk I just found from a UK supplier with someone else, and I also love having amazing handspun yarn and new things to spin :-) So I guess my ideal would be about equal yarn and fiber.

I wonder what the points/reqs will be? I tend to think of a handspun skein as a large, but that may just be because I'm not very fast yet [grin]

So here's what I have. I think it's too wordy possibly or too complicated.

Quote
What do you prefer to swap?
A. more yarn, less fiber
B. more fiber, less yarn
C. fiber only

If you want mainly handspun, do you mind having a partner who only wants fiber?

If you only want fiber, are you able/willing to send your partner handspun?

Opinions?

It might be easier for you to match people up quickly if you ask "What can you send? (list all that apply)" and "What do you want to receive (list all that apply)"

So hand dyed roving would count as the crafted portion?  I like that, I seem to be suffering from crafters block lately, but if the term is flexible I can definitely find something.

Ooo, I like that. So an entry might look something like this?

Send:
- carded rolags (alpaca, wool, bamboo)
- hand dyed roving (wool)
- handspun (alpaca, wool)

Receive:
- roving, tops, batts, rolags (any fiber)
- dyed roving (any fiber)
- handspun (any fiber)

Here's what I have so far (It's very rough and there will be changes made, but I think I've got most of what's been mentioned so far. I'm sure I'll use more examples.) Just to clarify, this is not the actual questionnaire, as this swap has NOT started. So hopefully I won't get any answers to this yet in my PM inbox. lol Seriously though, if you are interested in this swap, please join our discussion to learn all about it.

SAMPLE ONLY

***Please read the following questions carefully and answer what is applicable to your preferences.***

What do you prefer to swap?
A. more yarn, less fiber
B. more fiber, less yarn
C. fiber only

Would you mind having a partner who only wants fiber?

If you only want fiber, are you able/willing to send your partner handspun?

***Please answer as much as possible from the following questions. The more you answer, the better matched up you will be with your partner! ***

Are you willing craft over the minimum and include extras?
Do you have any common home allergies? Such as pets, cigarettes, etc.
Do you have any allergies to specific fibers?
What are your favorite fiber colors?
Do you have any colors that you specifically do not like?
What are your favorite fibers?
How do you prefer your fibers? Rovings, batts, rolags, clouds, raw?
How do you prefer/are you able to prepare fibers? Rovings, carded batts, rolags, clouds, raw?
Are you willing to swap luxury fibers? If so, which ones?  Bamboo, alpaca, silk, etc.
If you are a hand spinner, do you use a wheel or a spindle?
If you are a hand spinner, do you spin certain type/weights of yarn? Art yarns, sock yarns, etc.
If you want yarn, do you prefer certain types of yarn? Art yarns, sock yarns, etc.
Do you knit, crochet, weave or needle felt?
Do you have any favorite things/subjects?
Is there anything else you feel your partner should know about you?

I think the multiple choice question works because it sorts us into three definitive categories. Then the questions take care of the rest. Any more questions to throw in?

Persephone Hazard, what is your opinion on points. If you look at the first page, you'll see that as of now we have 3 oz as the main item. There is also another 1 oz. fiber requirement. That would put you guys at 4 oz. of fiber and a medium crafted item. I'd like to keep the requirements somewhat similar so we avoid too much confusion. If anyone has any ideas, please throw them out. I think letting partners decide on if they want to go over the minimums will be the best way to go, since we have a question asking that as well.

Also, I was under the impression that the crafted item did not have to be made from your handspun, because I thought we were swapping the handspun. So to me, any sort of spinning/fiber related item would be perfect. I was thinking of other things, like:
a drop spindle, someone had made an orifice hook last round, trinkets for plying, put together by hand plying & spinning goody bags, hand dyed/carded fiber (fiber must be manipulated/dyed by you to count as a crafted item), clever containers for fiber or yarn. Another thought I had was fancy/funky lap blankets specifically for fiber related crafts, so that our laps stay clean. Maybe your handcrafted items could be collections of natural plants dye stuffs? If any of those things I listed sound crazy, chime in, they were just thoughts.

That's an awesome questionnaire- incredibly thorough. Great job SML!!

I also really like the freedom of the crafted item not having to be handspun. The lap blankets and natural plants for dying are things I never would have thought of but absolutely would love. Niddy Noddies and Lazy Kates can also be made fairly inexpensively. I am just loving it all.

One question as a fiber newbie...does "luxury fiber" mean anything that isn't wool?
