Spring is an excellent time for a new discussion thread, don't you think?  Of course it's been snowing for 5 days straight here so it looks more like Christmas than spring, but someone, somewhere must have crocuses.  Right?  Tell me there are crocuses in the world please.  Before the neverending winter steals my soul.

We've got crocuses coming up here in Michigan! I'm not sure how well they'll make it through the next week (snow is on it's way), but it's nice to see a little color. Wink

No crocuses in northern Michigan, but our snow is subsiding!  I'm so sorry, bsonlytoots, that you've never seen crocuses!  Here is a link so sunspotted can at least gaze upon the joy of crocus in cyberspace and bsonlytoots can experience the feeling of spring popping up in wintery places: http://jugalbandi.info/2008/03/crocuses/

And here is Harriet Beecher-Stowe's tribute to "The Crocus" in honor of National Poetry month:

Around the soft, green swelling mound
We scooped the earth away,
And buried deep the crocus-bulbs
Against a coming day.
These roots are dry, and brown, and sere;
Why plant them here? he said,
To leave them, all the winter long,
So desolate and dead.

Dear child, within each sere dead form
There sleeps a living flower,
And angel-like it shall arise
In springs returning hour.

It's chilly but sunny here in central Indiana and the magnolia trees are blooming. I also saw some white crocuses up the street the other day.
