Hello!  I'm kind of new to the sight (just registered but have been looking a for a while, there is some amazing stuff on here!), and I have a crafting question.  My sister, knowing I love to be crafty, has asked me to make her wedding invitations on the cheap.  I've done some card making in the past as gifts, and even sold a few to some of my mom's friends.  It's something we did in a Girl Scout Mother's Day project years ago that I've kind of modified.  I've seen a few examples on here as well.  It's dying with shaving cream and food coloring, and then I use stamps and paper cutouts to decorate them.  There are a couple examples uploaded into my member gallery here: http://www.craftster.org/pictures/showgallery.php?cat=500&ppuser=178096 (I'm a newbie, I can't post pics yet I guess, so I hope that worked).  Would these be appropriate for wedding invitations?  I would use whatever colors they choose for their wedding colors, and have my sister choose a stamp and maybe a quote if she wanted.  I would probably also print out any wording instead of hand writing it.  Any feedback would be much appreciated.  Thanks!

Your cards are really great!

I'm not sure how that type card will look as a wedding invitation.  Can you make a sample of the invitation with printing on it and post it?  I'd love to see what it looks like.

Those cards are great! What an awesome technique!

I think they would look fine as wedding invites IF it fits the theme of the wedding. Check with your sister, see what colors she likes for the wedding and then make her a sample invite. She may like some things about the invite and may not like some others... then you can tweak it until you have it right.

Best of luck and please post pics!

Thanks for the advice.  I actually haven't even done a sample of an invitation, because my sister and her fiance are in training in the army and have had very little time to talk to each other let alone do any kind of planning.  But, it looks like I may be off the hook.  They were hoping to be able to get at least a little time off for the wedding, but it looks like they're being sent to their duty stations earlier than expected, so if they want to go together they'll have to do a quickie wedding the first chance they get (luckily, my family is in Reno, lots of quickie wedding chapels there).  So no invitations are necessary.

If you're still feeling crafty, you can do after-the-fact announcements for them.  That would be kind of cool.
