So, We're having a pirates Vs ninja's party for my partner's 26th birthday party, and i've made a treasure chest as a prop/centre-piece/decoration type thing. however, even having put a false bottom in it to make it look more full, i'm having trouble filling it with the booty, so far i have:

*chocolate coins
*mardi-gras beads
*paper money that i printed on the computer (complete with the birthday-boy's face in the middle)

does anyone have any ideas for more booty? (preferably ones that don't cost a lot to put together)

JoAnn's and the dollar store have bags of those glass baubles - some in fun shapes that look like giant jewels or crystals.  Those would look cool.  Also I'd throw in a few plastic sea animals (a starfish and a crab at least) and maybe some pirate toys that you could give as favors (eyepatches, hooks, bandanas, telescopes).  If it still comes down to it and you don't have anywhere near to enough stuff to fill it up, I'd either ball up wads of gold butcher paper or spray paint a bunch of rocks gold.  That'd be cheap and still look good even if it's worthless.  The chocolate coins and beads will be much appreciated, but they don't do squat for taking up space, huh?!
