Has any one done their own catering for their engagement party? What did you serve?

We didn't have an engagement party, but our rehearsal dinner was a barbecue and it went perfectly.  Everyone really liked a more relaxed environment (we had it at the park) and a really peaceful evening before the big day.  You'll clearly have long enough ahead of time for an engagement party, but I am all for taking it easy and just enjoying everyone's company rather than stressing about food, decorations, etc.  A barbecue with traditional foods (burgers, hot dogs, green & fruit & potato/noodle salads, fruit & veggies, sodas, etc.) is perfect for that.

We had a dessert party, so... cake, chocolate truffles, trifles, pie, etc.
