okay, so it's not that saucy, but it does have a red vinyl collar, as promised!

Yesterday was my 26th birthday and as I conveniently had the day off for Good Friday, I made this top using some lovely fabric I got for cheap at Walthamstow Market, and some red vinyl (backed on a flannel-type fabric) I got for 3 pounds from the same store.

I got loads of compliments on it, which was nice since I'm still coming off an illness (medication = no drinking!) and I could use all the flattery I could get!

(you can't really see the boobline gathers in either photo, but they add a nice touch)

The patterned body of it is loosely based on Simplicity 4951, but that pattern has triangular top pieces with fabric straps. I've made it before with simple cotton (and plan to make a bunch more for summer as it's so easy and will use up a bunch of misc fabric), but the vinyl bit I added on. I did the vinyl in one piece, a big open square, so it looks the same on the back.

Oh wow!  It's very neat.  I happen to have some red vinyl in the house and a stripy pink and red cotton fabric.  Mind if I steal you idea?
