I made a needlebook for my partner in the recent Discworld Swap, I posted it here because the embroidery was the part that took the longest time but let me know if you think it would be better of in sewing. All pictures taken by my lovely swap partner.

In the Discworld novels a seamstress is a bit of a euphemism for a lady of ill repute. A survey of the Guild of Merchants in the docks area of Ankh-Morpork found 987 women who gave their profession as "seamstress" and two needles. The logo for the guild plus more information about it can be found here http://wiki.lspace.org/wiki/Seamstresses%27_Guild.

I made a simple needlebook out of felt and embroidered a patch with the guild shield. This was done pretty much free hand - I tacked the rough shape on in white thread and then stitched over it. I'm not very good at stitch names but I think I used chain, satin and back stitch.

The tag reads 'Guild issue - everything a good jobbing seamstress needs'. In order to include EVERYthing a seamstress may need I added a secret pocket in the back containing one of Sonky's special preventatives.

And another shot showing exactly what Sonky's preventatives are

Let me know what you think. Any critisms welcome!

Too cute!  I think everyone should carry around a condom wallet for just in case.  Wink  I wonder if the felt would keep the condom from being damaged...  Since you're not supposed to carry condoms in regular wallets or in your pocket.

cute idea! but puh-LEASE don't use that condom if it really is anywhere near a needle!! pinpricks= BAAAAAD! babies! stds!! sorry to be the wet blanket here but my stomach lurched when i read it was a needle book and condom keeper. i would maybe craft some sort of realistic but fake condom to keep in there, for humor and safety sake. or maybe make in needle book contents fake. i don't know. i'm a worrier!

or you could just put one of those little plastic condom packs in there, they hold like 1 or 2 condoms. then you'd be safe!

ok, off my platform now!

Ha!  Needles + Condoms = Very Bad Idea!

However, your needle case is really cute and your shield looks awesome!

No need to worry about condom/needle issues, it was never meant to be practical in that sense, the condom was just for the Discworld joke. I'd probably keep the floss for whatever I was doing at the time in the pocket.

I love it! I adore Pratchett and only last week reread the one where Sonky got dipped into his own rubber vats and making a real Sonky sonky.

Very creative and so appropriate... and now I'm thinking that I need a needlebook upgrade..

I love this needlebook, and the best thing about it is: It is MINE! Mineminemine! Grin Grin
Don't worry about me mixing condoms with needles, I always take good care of my condoms, and they take good care of me Smiley Although it would always be possible to reinforce the condom pocket and make it pin-safe. One alteration that I will make is add a closure to the condom pocket to prevent the preventative from falling out.
