so i recently inherited a stash of yarn from a friend of mine, and in it was this cream-colored handspun wool, which i really didn't have any use for.

....soooo....

another friend and i decided to take a stab at dyeing yarn!

we used a conglomeration of different methods we researched, but i do love the results!

here's a close-up

we call it "gooseberry heather"

and the process... the "vase" of kool-aid, water, vinegar, and, um.. yarn? noodles? worms? weird brain matter? it's sitting in a hot water bath on the stove

and the whole skein

3.5 ounces, 100% wool, 3/4 cup vinegar, 2&3/4 cup water, 2 grapes and 1 cherry kool-aid!
needless to say, we're both addicted now!

thanks for looking, comments appreciated!

I need to get rid of stuff!! i have soap kits, bath salt kits, lip balm kits, plain canvas tote bags, fabric paints, and other stuff i'm trying to clean out. It'd be cool to swap for yarn, but i'll give it away FREE! PM me if you're interested!!!

Very pretty color.  I think you made a great choice in dying it.  I have wanted to try kool-aid to dry some wool items and was worried it wouldn't color completely.  Now I may give it a try.  Got any plans on what you will use the yarn for?

I love the color, the skein on the door reminds me of a huge strand of teeny amythest chips...love it!

Thanks everyone! i'm always super-psyched when something i try new works THE FIRST TIME. this friend and i, we've tried candles (they were lumpy and burned weird, but they smelled good) and lip balms (our first try was a hi-larious failure) but this was amazing.

yep, two hats. one for me, and one for my friend who helped me dye it. i'll probably pair it with bernat cashmere in charcoal cuz i can't handle wool too well on its own... but i can't wait to see the two together (and i already bought more yarn to dye)
